RAYMOND – More than 900 students earning nearly 1,300 credentials will graduate from Hinds Community College Dec. 10 and 11 at the Muse Center on the Rankin Campus.
The ceremonies include 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10 for all Nursing and Allied Health graduates; 2 p.m. Dec. 10 for other graduates whose last names begin with A-G; 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11 for graduates whose last names begin with H-N and 2 p.m. Dec. 11 for graduates whose last names begin with O-Z.
Among the graduates, 466 students are graduating with honors, including 239 cum laude, or 3.2 to 3.59 grade point average; 166 magna cum laude, or 3.6-3.99 GPA and 63 summa cum laude, a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Graduates will lead the invocation and benediction and offer remarks on behalf of their classmates.
Speaking at the 10 a.m. Wednesday Dec. 10 ceremony are Ameshia Bacon-Ivy, 29, of Camden and Sarah Coolman, 25, of Richland. Bacon-Ivy is earning her Licensed Practical Nursing certification. She plans to continue her education to become a Registered Nurse and will be working at the Madison Rehabilitation Center. Coolman is a Louisiana native who currently lives in Richland. She is earning an Associate Degree in Nursing. In February she will be working at St. Dominic Medical Center’s Neuro ICU. She will return to Hinds to complete her prerequisites for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Speaking at the 2 p.m. Wednesday Dec. 10 ceremony are Isaiah Harrison of Puckett and Nwal Said of Louisiana. Harrison, 19, has been taking general studies courses in preparation for pursuing a bachelor’s degree in social work at Mississippi College. Said, 27, is a Louisiana native. She has been studying in the paralegal program and taking nursing program prerequisites. After graduation, she plans to work in the paralegal field and apply to the nursing program at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in the fall. She also wants to study law.
On Thursday Dec. 11, Keveion McClain of Grenada and Chloe King of Terry will speak at the 10 a.m. ceremony. McClain, 21, is a student on the Utica Campus. He has been studying computer science and will continue in his field of study at Mississippi State University after graduation.
King, 19, has been taking general studies courses and plans to attend nursing school next fall. Her goal is to become a Registered Nurse and continue her education to become an OB/GYN.
Constance Olexy, 19, of Pearl and Kenneth Palmer, 20, of Chicago will speak at the 2 p.m. ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 11. Oxley was a student on the Rankin Campus and studied cybersecurity. She plans to finish her education in cybersecurity at Mississippi State University. Palmer attended General Studies classes at the Raymond Campus. After graduation he’ll be working at a childcare center. In fall 2026 he plans to transfer to Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C.
