A native of Ethel, Mississippi, he is a 1994 graduate of Holmes Community College and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumental Music Education from Mississippi College in 1996. He then accepted the position as band director at Ethel High School. Shane moved to Norman, Oklahoma in 1999 to pursue a Master of Music Education degree from the University of Oklahoma. He studied conducting under Dr. William K. Wakefield and trombone under Dr. Irvin Wagner. He also served as a graduate teaching assistant in the Music Department and for the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band. In 1999 he was the founding director of the Community Christian School Band Program in Norman. His bands in Mississippi and Oklahoma have experienced great success in the categories of marching, concert and sight-reading. Mr. Sprayberry was named Teacher of the Year in 1997 for Ethel High School and Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year in 1999.

In addition to his duties as director of bands, Shane spent over four years developing the Music Industry program at Hinds Community College. In a partnership with Bridgwater College in the United Kingdom, he and Ben Houlihan developed a plan to start the new degree program. The HCC Music Industry department began with 2 rock bands which has now developed into seven rock and jazz ensembles, a ProTools lab, and various recording and editing classes among many others.

Mr. Sprayberry is a member of the, the International Trombone Association, the Mississippi Community/Junior College Band Directors Association (past president), and the College Band Directors National Association. He has served as a clinician for the Scott County Band Clinic and the Capitol District Band Directors Association honor band.
