The Hinds Community College’s Marketing & Communications team walked away with multiple awards for news features, videos and publications at the College Public Relations Association of Mississippi’s annual conference on May 19 in Senatobia.

Karin Meadows, Assistant Director of Publications, and Photojournalist Angie Foote won a prestigious Grand Award in the Mixed Media Division for “Saving Grace,” a story about Hinds’ prison education program at Central Mississippi Regional Correction Facility in Pearl. The story, focused on the first incarcerated female in Mississippi to earn an associate of arts degree, was published in the Summer/Fall 2025 issue of Hindsight alumni magazine. Meadows and Foote also took home a first-place award for the article in the features category.

Marketing & Communications team members won awards in multiple other categories as well:

  • John Byars won first place in New Media for the video, Meet Gus the Guide
  • John Byars, Cathy Hayden, Karin Meadows, and Brad Smith, won second place in New Media for a video featuring the 2025 Carla McCullough Scholarship winner
  • Tracy Duncan, Dylan Foley, Angie Foote, Cathy Hayden, Karin Meadows, Mary Rousselle and Brad Smith won second place for the 2025-2026 Sports Media Guide
  • Band Director Dr. Joseph Earp and Patrick Wiggins won second place in the Non-Sports Hype Promo Video for a Marching Band video
  • Karin Meadows won second place in the Feature Story category for her profile of Alumnus of the Year Ryn Laster
  • Karin Meadows won second place in the News Story category for her article on The Learning Circle program
  • Patrick Wiggins won third place in the Television Spots category for Fall 2025 TV Commercial 1
