RAYMOND—Marvin Moak, Hinds Community College Vice President of Facilities and Auxiliary Services, received Hinds’ highest honor – the 3E Award – Emphasis on Excellence and Enrichment – during Spring Employee Appreciation festivities on April 24.

Surrounded by his family, including his mother, wife Leslie, also a Hinds employee, and their children, a teary-eyed Moak called the award a capstone on a career filled with great opportunities.

“Thank you so much. I appreciate it. It is a total surprise,” said Moak, a 26-year Hinds employee and Hinds alumnus with two associate degrees as well as degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi and Jackson State University. “I was getting ready to celebrate somebody else, hoping they were going to get it.

Hinds President Dr. Stephen Vacik called the 3E winner a humble, hard worker who always exceeds expectations and is an integral and critical member of the senior leadership team.

“With a modest and unassuming personality, we can guarantee that this person will be the most surprised person in the room. But this hard worker has quietly risen through the ranks of Hinds since 2000 with diligence, persistence and commitment,” Dr. Vacik said.

Moak began his career at Hinds as an electrical technology instructor. He was named Vicksburg-Warren Campus dean in 2014 and was promoted to Vice President in 2020. Moak was winner of the Mississippi Legislature’s 2008 Higher Education Appreciation Day-Working for Academic Excellence award, which recognizes academic excellence, service and contributions to higher education, has twice received the Hinds Life Star Award and was named a Hinds Hero in 2021.

Dr. Vacik said Moak has one of the hardest jobs at Hinds Community College: making sure the buildings on all six campuses are kept in the best condition possible on a shoestring budget and seeing that the college gets the most bang for its buck through auxiliary services such as the Muse Center and Eagle Ridge Conference Center & Resort and Golf Course.

“He truly cares about people,” Dr. Vacik said.

With six campuses in central Mississippi, Hinds Community College is a comprehensive institution offering quality, affordable educational opportunities with academic programs of study leading to seamless university transfer and career and technical programs teaching job-ready skills.
