UTICA – Three Hinds Community College Utica Campus students received a $10,000 2025-2026 Cal & Annette Johnson Historically Black Community College Scholarship at the Thurgood Marshall College Fund Workforce Development Summit in Birmingham on Nov. 15.
The three are Madisyn Beard of Cleveland, Akeelah Carter of Tchula and D’Avis Rogers of Yazoo City.
This is truly a testament to the caliber of students at Hinds’ Utica Campus and the strength of the nominations,” said Natasha Ramsey, Thurgood Marshall College Fund Senior Manager for Scholarships.
Beard is studying kinesiology and plays on the women’s basketball team. Carter is studying social work and is a member of TRIO-Student Support Services. Rogers is studying Radio & TV Broadcast Technology and is a member of Hinds Connection on the Utica Campus and is Miss NABJ, National Association of Black Journalists.
