RAYMOND—Transferring from Hinds Community College Honors Institute to Mississippi State University’s (MSU) Honors College will continue to be a streamlined experience for students.

Hinds CC President Dr. Stephen Vacik and MSU President Dr. Mark Keenum on April 15 renewed an academic transfer agreement between the two schools: Hinds honors students with a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher receive an automatic invitation to join MSU’s Shackouls Honors College.

The continuing agreement is representative of the strong partnership between the two schools. There are more transfer students at MSU from Hinds CC than from any other institution.

Before the signing ceremony, Dr. Keenum spoke to Hinds honors students at Fountain Hall about the importance of higher education and the opportunities available to transfer students. He shared his own education and job path to illustrate the multitude of academic and workforce options open to students who study hard and, after graduation, work with intention and integrity.

“We want for all of our students to have opportunities to get involved, to give back and to grow from experiential opportunities to help prepare you for your life and your future,” Dr. Keenum said. “We love Hinds transfer students and want to make it simple for you to attend MSU.”

Honors credits transferred from Hinds count as honors credits at MSU. In addition to the admissions avenue for honors transfer students, Hinds transfer students who have not completed the honors program will be admitted to Shackouls if they are in good standing at Hinds, have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher and provide a letter of support from the Hinds Honors Program director.

Dr. Vacik said the agreement makes it simple for Hinds honors students to assimilate to MSU’s honors program and tap into multiple scholarship opportunities.

“This allows those students who have been successful in the honors program at Hinds to very seamlessly move from one place to another and continue their education while also finding where they fit in. We love to continue to see more and more of our students transferring to Mississippi State,” Dr. Vacik said.
