Hinds CC art students win in state competition

The Raymond Campus Art Department selected 23 2-D works and five ceramics pieces for the show. Eight other community colleges participated in the 2023 MCCAIA.

Several Hinds Community College art students won awards in the Mississippi Community College Art Instructors Association competition held at Northwest Mississippi Community College. One student, Brianna Williams of Brandon, won Best in Show and a first place. Two other students won first place awards.

Hinds student awards include:

Ceramics Category

First place: Brianna Williams of Brandon – Ricardo Marble
Third place: Darby Phillips of Raymond – Decay Inder Extravagant Circumstances
Honorable Mention: Kalia Bradshaw of Jackson – Gloria

Painting/Mixed Media Category

Honorable Mention: Rowan Hays of Madison- Dripping Forms

Photography Category

First place: Inya Kirkland of Pearl – Mommy’s House
Second place: Hayley Lambert of Brandon – Montana Stranger
Third place: Michelle Russell of Jackson – Knots or Burls?

Printmaking Category

First place: Paris Lenoir of Philadelphia – Patriarchy

Best in Show

Other students selected for the 2023 MCCAIA competition include Lily Belle Cole of Clinton, Catherine Dean of Raymond, Tremond Ellis of Vicksburg, Ava Estes of Flora, Jamarion Gipson of Jackson, Olivia Hellings of Jackson, Lydia Jarrell of Fulton, Mike’la Nelson of Jackson, Jamiah Smith of Byram, Nathanael Smith of Jackson, Fakeyra Thomas of Fayette and Karina Trejo of Clinton.

These works are currently in the Marie Hull Gallery as part of the Annual Fine Art and Graphic Design Student Exhibit, which ends April 27. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday–Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon on Friday.
