The Utica Campus of Hinds Community College recently sponsored its 11th Holtzclaw Teacher Education Summer Institute for college students pursuing a career in teacher education.
Twenty students were selected to participate in the month-long Institute that was designed to teach test-taking strategies and information pertinent to passing PRAXIS I and PRAXIS II of the state Licensure Exam. Among those subjects of the program’s focus were English/writing, mathematics and reading.
The Institute also focused on preparing students holistically by placing interest on different areas of the teaching profession. At the end of the Institute, the participants were given a mock exam. That exam highlighted the strengths and weaknesses in each of the subject areas thereby allowing for additional study, if needed, before taking the actual exam.
“I am excited about the outcome of this group,” said Dr. Curtis Gore, director of the Teacher Education Preparation Program. “I believe this will be one of our best years yet.”
The Holtzclaw Teacher Education Summer Institute was sponsored with funds from the Title III Program, with Dr. Tiffany Anderson as director.
