Collin Brown of Raymond was named the Student of the Year by the Mississippi Association of Adult and Community Education (MAACE) at their annual June conference. Hinds employee Debra Perkins was named Support Staff of the Year.

Brown, 20, is a student at Hinds’ Rankin Campus Adult Education program at the Career-Technical Education Building on Greenfield Road in Pearl.

Brown said the program has helped him “come out of my shell, communicate more and make new friends.”

His nomination letter from the Hinds Adult Education program said: “Collin is a very dedicated student. While he has faced some academic challenges he strives to continue.”

Perkins, an intake specialist for the Adult Education program at the Rankin Campus Adult Education program, has worked in adult education for more than 25 years.

A statement in her nomination letter said the following: “Much of our success is owed to her. We would be much less of a program without her knowledge and support. She is always a team player and friendly reminder. She is the rock and the glue of not just a campus but of our department. She works hard from the moment she arrives to the minute she is leaving.”
