“I’m thinking of going into nursing so I can help people and save lives,” said Ashley Odems, a senior at Wingfield High School who was among more than 500 students at the come-and-go campus recruiting event.

Held annually, these events held at all six Hinds locations give prospective students of all ages a chance to find out about everything they need to enroll at the college. At College Carnival, prospective students met with Jackson Campus faculty and staff, learn about admissions, majors, financial aid and registration – all while enjoying free food and prizes.

Odems hopes to tackle her core academic courses at Hinds on the way to a fulfilling healthcare career. “My older sister is also studying at Hinds to be nurse.”

Following passions was also a priority for Jordan Ramsey, a senior at Murrah High School, who stopped by the Electronics Technology table and Laila Campbell, a junior at Callaway High School, who sought information on childcare careers.

“I like working with children, so I’m thinking about Early Childhood Education,” Campbell said.

Students got information on 25 academic and career-tech programs, student clubs, student services departments and other aspects of campus life.

“High school students from Jackson Public Schools spoke with our faculty one-on-one to learn about programs of study and the promising careers that Hinds graduates can obtain from right here at the Jackson Campus,” said Kathryn Cole, district director of Enrollment Services.
