Five Hinds welding students accept offers from Ingalls Shipbuilding

Five students from the Welding Technology program have accepted career offers from Ingalls Shipbuilding.

They were:

  • Jequavious Blanden, of Brandon
  • Marquavious Gowdy, of Jackson
  • James Kline Jr., of Vicksburg
  • Johnathan Lindsey, of Raymond
  • Dennis Walker, of Vicksburg

In July, the Pascagoula shipbuilder invited graduating students to the company’s first Graduation Experience Day at the Pascagoula shipbuilder. Students were given a tour of the massive shipyard, followed by a welding test. Offers made included a sign-on bonus.
Welding and cutting prepares students for entry-level jobs in the welding industry. Students in the program will learn Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Pipe Welding, Plasma Arc Cutting (PAC), Carbon Arc Cutting, Oxyfuel Cutting, Gas Metal Arc Aluminum Welding (GMAAW), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW).
