Jenkins was born and raised in Utica. He attended Hinds and Millsaps College and received his D.D.S. from the University of Tennessee Dental School. He was a member of both the Hinds Sports Hall of Fame and Millsaps College Sports Hall of Fame. He died in May 2011.

The entry fee for the tournament is $125 per person with the field limited to the first 72 players. The tournament will be during both mornings with check-in to be at 8 a.m. on Saturday and 8:30 a.m. Sunday.  A sausage and biscuit breakfast will be provided both mornings by Elvis Sledge with lunch both days provided by Shelby Jean Lewis, Jenkins’ sister.
