For Samantha McWilliams of Richland, left, and Kassy Ayers of Florence, the opportunity to pursue a medical career through classes close to home motivated them to enroll at the Rankin Campus of Hinds Community College.

Classes opened on Aug. 19 but students can register late for classes through Friday, Aug. 23. Late registration with an additional fee continues until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and until 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23.

McWilliams plans to major in surgical technology; Ayers plans a career in medical assisting. “It’s close to home and I’m able to work,” Ayers said.

Hinds has enrolled nearly 12,000 for the fall 2013 semester.
