Mississippi Student Screenwriting Competition

Rules and Eligibility

• The screenplay contest is open to any present Mississippi university or college student.
• Entrants must be 18 years or older to enter the contest. Misrepresentation of age, upon discovery, will forfeit entry and fees to the contest.
• All correspondence must be through a university or college email address (xxx.edu)
• Submissions are accepted via electronic submission only through our partner websites like FilmFreeway
• Each short script submission must be 10-15 pages in industry-standard script format with a title page and include a logline or 10-line synopsis page.
• Each submission must contain an author biography and university or college affiliation
• Entries must be submitted by 11:59 PM Central Time on or before May 1, 2023
• All scripts submitted must be owned by the writer.
• It is recommended that original material be registered with the WGA or The Library of Congress before submitting to any competition, however, we do not require registration.
• All ownership and rights to the scripts submitted to this contest remain with the original rights holders
• The decision of the judges will be final and cannot be contested in any manner. There is no score on a scorecard that guarantees advancement to the next level as advancement will be based on all scores in the competition.
• The competition, its judges, and its officers accept no liability whatsoever for any claims of damages, real or perceived, by any entrant(s) as a result of their participation in this contest.
• We do not make scripts available online.
• We may promote some of the films by uploading the trailers/teasers/posters/production.
• We do not accept: Extremist content from religious or political organizations, or pornographic content.
• The winning script will be used as the basis for a following directing competition.
• The theme for the short script will be emailed to the participants on February 1.
