Industrial Mechanics & Maintenance
About
The Industrial Maintenance Trades curriculum is a career-technical program designed to prepare students for entry-level employment as multi-skilled maintenance technicians. Industrial maintenance trade technicians are responsible for assembling, installing, and maintaining and repairing machinery used in the manufacturing or industrial environment. Students receive basic instruction in a wide variety of areas including safety, machinery maintenance and troubleshooting/service, blueprint reading, basic welding and cutting operations, basic machining operations, fundamentals of piping and hydro-testing, and fundamentals of industrial electricity.
Continental Tire will start clearing land in 2016, then begin major construction on a plant that is to be production-ready by 2019. Once completed Paul Williams, executive vice president for the global tire maker and automotive supplier’s commercial vehicle tire operation in the Americas, said, the $1.45 billion plant will move quickly to a capacity of 1.1 million tires produced annually, and later to accommodate the company’s passenger car division.
“As that plant grows, you’ll have more and more career opportunities – supervisors, managers, team leaders, all that will encompass that plant,” he said.
Many of the 2,500 jobs the company has said will result from the plant’s construction are highly skilled, technical positions where training in modern-day factory equipment is a must, Williams said.
Industrial Maintenance is offered at multiple locations. Day, night and short-term classes are offered throughout the year. Students in the program will learn the importance of maintaining high personal standards, work ethic and practice habits that are required on the job. All students and instructors are expected to comply with personal and environmental safety practices in accordance with industry standards.
Hinds CC instructors are certified by the National Center for Construction Education and Research to teach Industrial Maintenance. Our instructors continuously update their skills and knowledge base to match industry standards and better prepare students for employment post-graduation.
Students who complete the Industrial Maintenance program will be prepared for jobs in mechanical/electric repair and preventative maintenance with industrial or commercial employers. Hinds CC has an excellent reputation with local industry professionals looking for skilled workers. Job placement for our graduates is a top priority.
Degree options in the Industrial Maintenance Technology program include a Career Certificate, a Technical Certificate and an Associate of Applied Science Degree option. A Career Planning and Assessment System (CPAS) review course and exam are required to graduate from these programs.
