About

Welcome to the delightful world of food! In our department, students learn many things about how food can be used to nourish the body and promote health and longevity. Students can also get information and be advised on degrees and careers in nutrition and food science.

The Nutrition and Food Science department is located in Beemon Hall on the Raymond campus. We strive to have students learn as much as possible to improve their understanding of nutrition and food science and to expose them to alternative career paths.

Our nutrition courses are offered in both classroom and online formats. These courses help to prepare students for admission to food science, nursing, dietetics, sports training, pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, and other health-related programs.

The Associate of Arts (AA) degree in general studies covering the first two years of college can be earned from Hinds. The final two years of coursework must be completed at a four-year institution in order to earn the Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or Food Science. Two-year colleges in Mississippi do not offer any special degree or certificate in Nutrition, Dietetics, or Food Science.

Our nutrition courses are currently listed under “FCS” (Family and Consumer Sciences) and “BIO” (Biology).
