Jane Bird Joseph holds a Master of Music in Piano Performance from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor of Music Education in Piano from Mississippi State University. Mrs. Joseph teaches Piano, Music Appreciation, and Music for Elementary Teachers at Hinds Community College.
Mrs. Joseph has more than thirty years of teaching experience at the college and pre-college levels, and many of her students have gone on to have distinguished careers as musicians. Mrs. Joseph has taught at Mississippi College, Belhaven College, Millsaps College, and William Carey College; and, she was Staff Accompanist at The University of Arkansas at Monticello. Her experiences as a performer include master class performances with concert artists Ruth Slenczynska and Agustin Anievas, sacred concerts, and solo recitals. Mrs. Joseph is a church organist and pianist, and she is active as an accompanist. Additionally, Mrs. Joseph has accompanied Bel Canto, the touring choir of the Mississippi Girl Choir, since 2009.
Mrs. Joseph was a winner of the Mississippi Music Teachers’ Association Collegiate Artist Auditions and Piano Concerto Auditions and was among the top ten piano students in the United States to receive a National Guild of Piano Scholarship. She was named one of three “Outstanding Senior Women” at Mississippi State University and was inducted into the Mississippi State University Hall of Fame. She serves as frequent adjudicator of piano competitions and festivals. Mrs. Joseph’s professional memberships include Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), Mississippi Music Teachers Association (MMTA), Jackson Music Forum, and Pi Kappa Lambda national music honor society. Mrs. Joseph received her MTNA permanent professional certification as a teacher of piano, which is based on student achievement, personal performances, and professional development.
