Accounting & Accountancy

Students often associate accounting with simply crunching numbers; however, students seeking an Associate of Arts in the accounting area of study will find a wide range of exciting jobs that will allow them to work in the public or private sector.

Business Administration

In our Business Administration Area of Study, you will be prepared to run a business and to ensure its processes are running smoothly and effectively. Many of our Hinds faculty members have been active in the business sector and will be delighted to share their firsthand experiences as they prepare you for careers in business administration.

Veterinary Technology
Program of Study

Our Veterinary Technology program, held on our Raymond Campus, prepares you for careers in small, large, and mixed animal practice, research, education, animal rehabilitation centers, animal rescue centers, and zoological parks. You will be given the education and experience you need to perform basic veterinary tasks such as taking client histories and performing physical exams, dispensing and administering medication and vaccines, preparing patients for surgery, monitoring anesthesia, surgical assisting and recovering patients, client education, training and supervision, and medical record keeping.

Commercial Truck & Bus Driving
Program of Study

Our Commercial Truck Driving program will prepare you for employment in the field of transportation. You can also use the program as an enhancement or stackable credential to other career-technical programs currently being offered. The curriculum content includes the Department of Transportation rules and regulations, Mississippi requirements for obtaining a commercial driver’s license (CDL), and the operation of a semi tractor-trailer.

Aviation Maintenance Technology
Program of Study

Our Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) is a four-semester instructional program that will prepare you to inspect, repair, service, and overhaul aircraft and engine components and systems. It is designed to introduce you to the rewarding profession of aviation maintenance while exposing you to the theories of operation for the various aircraft systems.

Commercial Aviation
Program of Study

In the Commercial Aviation program at Hinds Community College, you can earn a two-year Associate’s of Arts degree and a private pilot license. You’ll also be able to transfer credits to other four-year programs in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree and advanced pilot ratings. We even have an articulation agreement with Delta State University to facilitate such a transfer.

The Theatre Program offers experience in all facets of acting, make-up, scenery construction and other technical aspects of theatre.

Diesel Equipment Technology
Program of Study

Our Diesel Equipment Technology Program will provide you with the competencies required to maintain and repair a variety of industrial diesel equipment, including but not limited to agricultural tractors, commercial trucks, and construction equipment. You will learn to inspect as well as repair and maintain engines, power trains, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, air conditioning, and brake systems. Additionally, you may earn multiple industry-accredited certifications in each area of concentration over a course of 14 consecutive months.

Welding Technology
Program of Study

Our Welding Technology program will prepare you for entry-level jobs in the welding industry. You will learn shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), pipe welding, plasma arc cutting (PAC), carbon arc cutting, oxyfuel cutting, gas metal arc aluminum welding (GMAAW), and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). Your program coursework will include math, metallurgy, welding inspection, and destructive and non-destructive testing.

Unmanned Aerial Systems Technology
Program of Study

Our Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) program will prepare you for a career as an operator of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), also known as “drones.” Hinds also partners with industry and government to provide essential skills to operate safely within the federal airspace system. Throughout the curriculum, you will get hands-on operation of fixed-wing and rotary aircraft, understand full-scale simulator software/hardware systems, learn about UAVs from basic stages to the advanced stages, launch and recovery techniques, autopilot operations, develop knowledge of risk awareness, and data links and sensors.

Travel & Tourism Management Technology
Program of Study

Our Travel and Tourism Management Technology concentration provides specialized instruction and practice to prepare you for a career in tourism and travel. The curriculum will cover travel technology, hospitality management, and travel analytics. You will also learn how to perform reservation functions on a central reservation system (CRS) system. By the end of the program, you will possess a solid foundation in the travel and tourism industry.

Telecommunications Technology
Program of Study

Our Telecommunications Technology program will prepare you for a wide range of technical positions within the telecommunications industry. Specific preparation is in modes, techniques, and mediums of voice, and data transmissions and reception. Emphasis is on the telephone instrument, key systems, analog and digital voice communications, data communications, fiber optics applications, satellite and microwave communications, and integrated services digital network (ISDN). Graduates will be qualified to help select, install, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair telecommunications systems.

Surgical Technology
Program of Study

Our Surgical Technology program is a one-year curriculum that will prepare you to work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other surgical personnel before, during, and after surgery. Surgical Technologists work extensively with surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment to provide a safe surgical experience for each patient. The Surgical Technology program begins every August and lasts for one year (three semesters).

Speech & Communication Department
Academic Department

The Speech and Communication Department offers courses relating to public speaking, phonetics, and debate. Students are prepared to speak in a variety of public forums, using effective speech preparation and delivery techniques. In addition to public speaking, students can study diction, auditory training, articulation, and voice production. Our argumentation and debate coursework combines a variety of techniques students use to actively debate topics in a classroom setting.

Software Engineering Technology
Program of Study

Our Software Engineering Technology (Coding) curriculum is a two-year program of study designed to train you to be a software developer. You will work with real-world technologies to learn the fundamentals of coding, app development, web applications, and the life leadership skills needed to be successful in your career and competitive in the job market. The Software Engineering Technology curriculum is aligned to a skill set that enables you to learn and enhance skills as they relate to HTML and CSS, Database Fundamentals, Python, and JavaScript.

Sociology

Through our Sociology Area of Study, you will field explore various components of society and the interactions between people and groups. You will learn the social processes that influence how individuals think and act, they can better understand the behavior patterns and motivations of people. We offer a wide variety of courses, including Introduction to Urban Studies, Race and Ethnic Relations, and Anthropology.

Our Social Work Area of Study will prepare you to pursue a bachelor’s degree at a four-year institution. Social work involves the understanding of human development, behavior, and the social-economic, and cultural institutions and interactions.
