Practical Nursing
Program of Study

Our Practical Nursing program prepares you to assist in providing general nursing care. This requires basic knowledge of the biological, physical, behavioral, psychological, and sociological sciences as well as nursing procedures which do not require the substantial skills, judgment, and knowledge required of a registered nurse. This care is performed under the direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician, or dentist. The graduate of the program functions as a provider of care, a member of a profession, and a manager defined in the Mississippi Competency Model 1997.

Our Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) curriculum is a two-year program of study that prepares a PTA to perform interventions under the supervision of a physical therapist in an ethical, legal, safe, and effective manner. As a PTA, you will enhance the delivery of physical therapy services by providing delegated interventions, assisting the physical therapist with data collection, communicating with other members of the health care delivery team, interacting with members of the patient’s family and caregivers, and working cooperatively with other health care providers.

Nursing Assistant
Short-Term Course

Our Our Nursing Assistant course provides instruction in knowledge and performance skills to provide basic care to patients in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and personal homes. You will learn several in-demand skills like medical terminology, basic nursing skills, monitoring vital signs, safety and emergency procedures, patient and resident rights, and more. Upon successful completion of the curriculum, you will be eligible for the certification test for nursing assistants. This 100-hour course is offered each semester. Classes begin in the summer, spring, and fall semesters.

Our Cosmetology Instructor Training program will prepare you for a career as a cosmetology instructor. It includes theory, methodology and techniques in hair cutting, styling, lectures, supervision, and office work. To be admitted, you must have completed the required six semester hours and have Mississippi Cosmetology Board approval.
