Mississippi-West Africa Seminar Series presents Alan Huffman

Join us to hear Alan Huffman speak about Mississippi’s ties to Liberia.

Mississippi In Africa, is based on Mississippians that migrated to Liberia in the 1840’s during the Liberian Civil war. Specifically, they lived in the capital city of Greenville located in Sinoe County Liberia. The American Colonization Society which ended in the 1960’s, had a heavy influence on building settlements in hopes of creating alternative methods of emancipation for African Americans. Artifacts of Mississippians are still vivid there, including Mississippi Street. Alan Huffman who is the author of the book will be discussing the close historic ties Mississippi has with Liberia.
