Tracy Crosby is an alumnus of Hinds and received her Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music Education from Northeast Louisiana University, where she studied composition with Dr. Roger Jones and conducting with Jack White. Before coming to the Hinds Music Department, Ms. Crosby served as Director of Bands for with the award-winning Brandon High School Band, and in 1986 was named "The A.E. McClain Outstanding Young Band Director in Mississippi" by the Mississippi Bandmasters' Association. Upon accepting her position as Director of Bands at Hinds Community College in 1990, she became the first female Director of Bands at a college or university in the state of Mississippi. Her bands performed for many of the governors of the state, opened for Montgomery Gentry at the Mississippi Coliseum and for the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, performed for the Rotary Club Southeastern Convention, the MPSBA State Clinic , the MHSAA State Marching Festival and numerous other functions. She has studied conducting with world famous conductors H. Robert Reynolds, Eugene Corporon and Robert Rumbelow.
After eighteen years of service as a band director, Ms. Crosby retired from the position in 2003 and is now an instructor in the Music Department. Her duties include overseeing the music composition computer lab and teaching Music Fundamentals, Music Theory I and II, as well as private instruction in trombone, baritone and tuba. In addition, Ms. Crosby frequently serves as a clinician, adjudicator and commissioned composer/arranger for band music. She has written over 100 marching band arrangements including "Down by the Riverside" for the 2004 Lions' All State Band. Her first concert work, "His Eye is on the Sparrow", was premiered by the Gulfport High School Symphonic Band at the Mississippi Band Director's State Convention in Biloxi in December 2003. It was also performed by the 2006 Mississippi All-State Band and has been featured on Public Radio Music's "Mississippi Concert Hall."
Ms. Crosby has served as the Chair of the Raymond Faculty Council, Vice Chair and Recorder for District Faculty Council, Campus Environment Committee, Pickett Grant Committee Chair, College Council, the QEP Steering Committee for SACS and the Legislative Advocacy Committee.
