Practical Nursing

The Practical Nursing Program prepares the individual to assist in providing general nursing care requiring basic knowledge of the biological, physical, behavioral, psychological, and sociological sciences; and of nursing procedures which do not require the substantial skills, judgment, and knowledge required of a registered nurse.  This care is performed under the direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician, or dentist.  The graduate of the program functions as a provider of care, a member of a profession, and manager defined in the Mississippi Competency Model 1997.


Information Sessions
Information sessions are held at the Nursing/Allied Health Center on the first Friday of each month at 1 p.m., except holidays. These sessions will provide you with an opportunity to talk with nursing faculty, counselors, and financial aid representatives and to tour school labs. Visit us to learn more about becoming a LPN.

Practical Nursing Information and Options

The graduate is prepared to write the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN).  Licensing of the practical nurse is regulated by the Mississippi Board of NursingThe program is accredited by the Mississippi Community College Board, 3825 Ridgewood Road, Jackson, MS  39211.  Phone 601.432.6518.

Program Options

The two options that are available are the Generic Option which is offered in August and January on the Jackson Campus-Nursing/Allied Health Center, in August on the Vicksburg Campus, and in January on the Rankin Campus and the Part-time Night and Weekend option which is offered on the Jackson Campus-Nursing/Allied Health Center beginning each summer.
