SNAP Employment & Training Skills2Work

The SNAP E & T Skills2Work program is intended to assist eligible SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) recipients by providing tuition assistance for Adult Basic Education, Workforce Development and career and technical training. SNAP recipients who are not eligible for Pell grants, other federal grants, or scholarships may receive tuition assistance while enrolled in an adult basic education, workforce development, career or technical program of study at Hinds Community College.

Eligibility: 

  • Must be a SNAP recipient
  • Must not be receiving TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families)
  • Must be between the ages of 16 and 59
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Mississippi
  • Must be registered for work with the MS Department of Employment Security
  • Must not have a drug-related felony since August 22, 1996
  • Must not be a fleeing felon
  • Must not live on campus and be required to purchase a meal ticket

Requirements:

  • Enroll in an adult basic education, workforce development, career or technical program of study at Hinds Community College.
  • Students must apply for and complete all requirements for federal grants and scholarships each year.
  • If you are currently not a recipient of SNAP benefits, you may submit an application online at www.msdh.ms.gov.

  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress in your program of study and in Good Standing with the College.

More information:

  • The SNAP E & T Skills2Work program will cover tuition, and book fees for adult basic education, work force development, and career or technical program of study.
  • Student must maintain a GPA of 2.5
  • Student must meet with Skills2Work advisor, Mitzi Thomas, to develop an educational time line.
  • Academic courses are not covered by this program.
