What is Dual Credit?
A dual credit student is a student who is enrolled in college while still enrolled in high school and who is receiving high school and college credit for postsecondary coursework. Credit is received for the high school course and the college course at the same time….and tuition is FREE! The free tuition dual credit program is specifically for students who attend a high school that has a signed Dual Credit agreement with Hinds Community College. Hinds courses are taken in the high school by college-approved instructors. Check with your principal or counselor to see if your high school participates in the Dual Credit program.
What is Dual Enrollment?
A dual enrolled student is a student who is enrolled in college while still enrolled in high school. Any high school student who meets dual enrollment admission requirements may participate. The student will first gain admission to the college, then be advised by a Hinds counselor who will help the student choose appropriate classes that fit around their high school schedule. Classes may be taken in day, evening, or online on any one of Hinds 6 campuses. Normal tuition and fees apply.
Tuition and fees at Hinds are less than half the cost of attending a public four-year university in Mississippi.
Hinds Community College offers a variety of scholarships. A great attribute of our college is that, unlike many other colleges and universities, we allow our students to receive more than one scholarship. We want your education to be accessible and affordable. Check out the following scholarship opportunities, their requirements and deadlines. If we can assist you with scholarships in any way, please call us at 601.857.3767.
