Hinds Community College prides itself in working with local employers to fulfill their needs. When KLLM Transport Services needed more trained drivers with professional credentials, Hinds and KLLM crafted a partnership that allows Hinds students to be trained in KLLM’s Richland academy in 16 weeks.
Another gap that needed to be filled was in the diesel industry. Hinds formed a partnership with Empire Truck Sales and Stribling Equipment to train students in the college's growing Diesel Equipment Technology program.
A U.S. Department of Labor grant delivered through a regional consortium is helping Hinds provide training for barge deckhands needed by river barges along the Mississippi River.
And to meet the industry demand for trained welders, Hinds has welding classes on five campuses, but has also opened midnight welding classes on two of these campuses to maximize the use of facilities and instructional slots.
