Hinds Connection: Sponsors Hinds Connection is the student recruiting and public relations group for Hinds Community College. Members of this group are carefully selected and trained. They not only recruit prospective students, they work with the administration, faculty and staff of the college.
Jackie Granberry
Jackie Granberry came to Hinds in 1979 as an academic counselor. After one year as a counselor, she started performing recruiting duties for Hinds and began working with the Hinds Connection. Hinds Connection started in 1978 under the direction of Alice Walker as a hospitality group to serve at luncheons and teas specifically with the purpose of serving as the investiture of Dr. Clyde Muse, College President. When Jackie came on board to work with Connection, she began using them in recruiting efforts.
Jackie was named Director of Development in 1987 and then as additional responsibilities were added the position title was changed to Director of Institutional Advancement. In 1998, she was named Vice President for Institutional Advancement, a position she has held since. She also served as Director for the Campaign for Hinds, the first comprehensive capital campaign conducted by Hinds which raised funds to rebuild the burned Cain Hall and for scholarship and faculty/staff development. She is responsible for the areas of Enrollment Services (Student Recruiting, Hinds Connection, Admissions and Records); Alumni; Foundation; and special events.Jackie holds a B. S. and M. Ed. degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi.
She has received the 3E Award, been named a Life Star Recipient, and chosen Most Outstanding and Distinguished Administrator.
Jackie and her husband Kenny reside in Raymond and are the parents of two grown children (Michael and Christy) who were both Hinds Connection members.
Jay Allen, Ph.D.
Jay Allen, Ph.D. graduated from Wingfield High School in Jackson. He later graduated from Hinds Community College in 1991. He followed the Associates in Arts degree with a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture from Mississippi State University in 1993. During the tenure at Hinds and Mississippi State University he was a student recruiter and orientation leader, including president of Hinds Connection.
Due to a desire to pursue a career in student services and recruiting he completed a Master of Science degree in Counselor Education with an emphasis in Student Development from Mississippi State University in 1995. Special emphasis was given to experiences and training in the area of student recruitment, admissions, and a graduate internship in career services while in graduate school. His work career started with employment at Hinds Community College as Enrollment Manager in 1995.
In 1998 he was promoted to Director of Enrollment Management and began to grow the recruiting staff. He now serves Hinds Community College as Dean of Enrollment Services where he has aided in the creation of award winning marketing campaigns, consulted with other community colleges, presented at state, regional, and national conferences and lead the College into numerous record enrollment years.
He also serves as a sponsor of Hinds Connection the College’s student recruiting and hospitality group. Recently he has received the highest honor at Hinds Community College, the 3-E Award, emphasis on excellence and enrichment.
Jay now resides in Raymond with his wife, Belinda, and their two daughters, Emma Grace and Mollianne.
Reggie Harris
Reggie Harris was a standout athlete at Vicksburg High School, where he was MVP in baseball and football for two years and was named Outstanding Defensive Player in the Red Carpet Bowl. He received the Thom Mcan Award for Best Athlete on the Field and in the Classroom, and was named to Who’s Who Among High School Students. He Attended Hinds 1985-1987 on a football scholarship and lettered for two years as an outstanding linebacker for the Eagles.
He was named captain of his team and stayed active with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes throughout his student career at Hinds and later at Delta State University (DSU). Recruited to DSU on a football scholarship, Harris lettered there for two years as a linebacker and served as team captain. He led the team in tackles during the 1988 season, and during the 1989-90 season he served as a student coach for the linebackers.
He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1990. He returned to Hinds to serve as a recruiter and later earned his master’s degree in education at Jackson State University. Harris was been with the college for 19 years where he has served as District Recruiting Coordinator at Hinds for the last nine years. Harris was inducted into the HCC Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.
Reggie and his wife, Angela, reside in Raymond with their children Grant, Thomas, and Carmen. The family is active with Bright Morning Star where Harris serves as Minister.
