This week is Homecoming week at Hinds Community College, and the campus has been busy with a week of exciting events, especially in the athletics realm.
The Hinds Eagles football team will host the Itawamba Community College Indians in a 7 p.m. tilt on Thursday evening. Both teams sport identical 2-4 overall records and 1-3 records in division play.
The nonconference battle will be shown on www.hindsccsports.com for those unable to attend the game in person. Both Hinds home games in 2009 have also been shown on the school’s athletic Web site, with positive results. Please visit the athletics site to tune in and catch all of the action.
On Thursday night at 5:30, just prior to kickoff, the college will hold its annual Sports Hall of Fame banquet in Mayo Field House on the Raymond Campus.
New inductees into the Hall of Fame are Pruitt Blalock (Football, baseball, 1956-1958), Doug Fowler (Track and field head coach and assistant football coach, 1979-1984), Carl Harris (Basketball, 1956-1958), Dr. Cleon McKnight (Tennis coach, 1984-1999, and chemistry instructor, 1970-2002) and Deborah Nichols (Tennis, Volleyball Player, Basketball Manager, 1967-1969, Physical Education Instructor 1973-2004, Softball Coach 1977-1997 and Health and Physical Education Department Chair 1997-2004).
The Homecoming Court will also be presented at halftime, including the announcement of this year’s queen who was elected by Hinds students. In case of rain Thursday night, the court presentation and the halftime recognition of the Sports Hall of Fame inductees will be moved from the field at Joe Renfroe Stadium to Bee Hall.
