Hinds Community College faculty members Kathy Huff of Pearl (Rankin Campus history instructor) and Shirley Jenkins of Florence (Jackson Campus-Nursing/Allied Health Center Respiratory Care Technology program chair), have been selected to attend the 2009 Lamplighters Conference Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at Mississippi Delta Community College in Moorhead.
Huff, who holds her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Mississippi College, has been teaching full time at the Rankin Campus since fall 1997. She has served as co-adviser for Phi Theta Kappa and as a representative on the college’s District Faculty Council. She currently serves as District lead online instructor for Humanities.
Jenkins earned an associate’s degree at Holmes Community College and a bachelor’s degree in art education at Delta State University. After teaching art for a short period, she earned her Respiratory Certificate at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and she is registered through the National Board for Respiratory Care. She practiced at the Jackson Veterans Administration Medical Center for 10 years before starting to teach at Hinds in 1997.
The two will join their faculty peers from Mississippi’s community colleges throughout the state for this annual conference where they will gain new ideas and share teaching techniques and experiences.
