The Hinds Community College Utica Campus Skills USA team earned a number of awards in the State Skills USA Conference competition held in Biloxi in April.
Competing but not pictured were Jasmine Free of Vicksburg, child development technology major, silver medal in pre-school teaching assistance; Dexter Brookins of Yazoo City, brick, block & stonemasonry major and Jacoby Curry of Port Gibson, who teamed for a bronze medal in masonry; Darrain Dixon of Jackson, cosmetology major, bronze medal in cosmetology and Marlene Smith of Vicksburg who was elected a state officer. Smith was also named a Hinds CC Outstanding Technical Student of the Year in an awards program held simultaneously with the Skills USA State Conference.
Also not pictured are advisers who accompanied the Hinds-Utica team, Fredie Edwards of Edwards and Carolyn Samuel of Utica.
Those named state officers will compete at the National Skills USA Conference in Kansas City, Mo. June 22-26.
