Ashley Nowell, 20, of Clinton, a Raymond Campus nursing student, was crowned Miss Hinds Community College 2010 in the pageant Thursday, Feb. 4.

First runner-up was Rachel Daniels, 20, of Byram, a Raymond Campus nursing student. She’s a graduate of Lawrence County High School.

Second runner-up was Nikki Lewis, 20, of Jackson. She’s a Raymond Campus student majoring in nursing. She’s a graduate of Forest Hill High School.

Nowell also won the lifestyle and fitness in swimsuit competition. Daniels won the talent competition with a jazz dance to “Heartache Tonight.

Nowell, whose talent was a jazz dance to “Black and Gold,” will compete in the Miss Mississippi pageant July 7-10 at the Vicksburg Convention Center. Nowell is a graduate of Hillcrest Christian Academy.

Nowell’s platform is the Girl Scouts. During her interview question that centered on the last thing she did to promote Girl Scouts, she related a story of working at a recent “Dad and Me” camp that included teaching canoeing and kayaking skills.
