Hinds Community College has completely revamped its Web registration as students sign up for summer and fall classes.
As part of the new process, students no longer have to pay a registration fee up front before they can register. Now the $50 fee is due 10 days before classes start, just like all other fees and tuition. Students can now use financial aid to pay the registration fee or include it as part of their payment plan if they are not paying all money owed 10 days before classes start.
Revamped Web registration opened on Tuesday, April 14 for current Hinds Community College students and April 20 for new students after they initially saw an adviser.
On that first day, April 14, about 450 current students used Web registration to register or add or drop classes, said Ginger Turner, district registrar.
"Students accessed Web registration throughout the night - midnight, 2 a.m. etc.," Turner said. "We have immediately provided a more convenient service for our students."
As of April 23, more than 1,750 Web registration transactions have been conducted.
"We really want to encourage students to register early," Turner said.
Registering early allows students their pick of times and instructors before classes begin to get full.
New students must see an adviser the first time before they can Web register. But once they have their plan of study, they can use Web registration from then on.
