04/03/08 – Mississippi Braves fans will have a special treat at the first Friday night home game at Trustmark Park in Pearl when Hinds Community College teams up to offer a special night of fun activities on April 11.

Hinds’ activities start at 5:30 p.m. The M-Braves will take on the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, in a 7:05 p.m. start.

Tickets are $5 general admission and $8 stadium seating.

The night, which will close with the traditional Friday night fireworks, promises to be a fun way for prospective students and their families to experience what the college has to offer.

It’s also a great way for alumni, who will receive a special gift, to find out what’s new at Hinds.

“The event is a great way to connect with the community, prospective students and alumni. Our Rankin Campus is in Trustmark Park’s neighborhood, and we intend to talk to a lot of Braves fans about the college,” said Colleen Hartfield, vice president for community relations.

Fans will be greeted at the gate by the Hinds jazz ensemble. The renowned Hinds Hi-Steppers, Hinds cheerleaders and the baseball and softball teams will be on hand to participate in on-field activities.

Hinds-sponsored kids’ activities include coloring contest, face painting and photos with the Hinds Eagle and Mississippi Braves mascots.

Dental-assisting students will show kids proper tooth brushing techniques. Nursing students will perform free health screenings.

The Hinds Community College men’s choir of the Raymond campus will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Hinds students will also lead singing of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch.

And fun door prizes will be awarded throughout the game

The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown out by Mississippi Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant, a Hinds alumnus, just prior to the start of the game.
