11/08/07 - Current Hinds Community College students can advance register Monday-Friday, Nov. 12-16, for spring semester classes that begin on Jan. 14.

General advance registration for current and new Hinds students is Nov. 26-Dec. 18.

Advance registration gives students a better opportunity of getting the classes they need when they need them, said Raymond Campus freshman Quincy Jones of Terry.

He had the benefit of an older brother's advice before he started at Hinds this fall.

"My brother told me the lines are really long, and it (advance registration) is easier because you have a better selection to choose from," Jones said.

Being a chemistry major, Jones needs certain specific courses. "I had to take one other science. Biology was still open because I had advance registration. Trigonometry, there are only two classes but I got in because I registered in advance," he said.

As part of the registration process, students meet with a counselor to explore educational options and then are registered for classes.
