Hinds offering seven courses during December mini-term
Nov. 6, 2007
- College and university students can get ahead in their higher education goals over the winter break by taking one of seven mini-term courses at Hinds Community College's Rankin Campus in December.
Registration for the courses is Nov. 26-Dec. 18.
The courses are part of Hinds' FastTrack nontraditional scheduling options. The courses are 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., Dec. 19-31.
They include Intro to Computer Concepts, English Composition I, Western Civilization I, Music Appreciation, American National Government, Ethics and Public Speaking.
Hinds started the mini-term option for the first time in December 2006 with three courses.
Mary Ann Stotts, 55, of Madison needed six hours to become re-licensed to teach in Mississippi public schools after a career in private schools. She took a three-hour microcomputer applications course at the Rankin Campus in May.
She says the mini-term option is perfect "for a teacher or a family person who needs something real quick."
Stotts said she believe she was "getting everything I would get in a 15-week course."
Brennan Anderson, 19, of Clinton took an ethics class in May. The mini-term option "allows you just to focus in one subject ...You don't have to worry about the other subjects you'd normally be taking at the same time," he said.
