Hinds Idol named in spirited, fun-filled competition
03/14/08
Monique Taylor of Morton, a nursing student on the Raymond Campus, won the first-ever Hinds Idol contest Thursday, March 13.
Taylor was the top pick of judges “Randy, Paula and Simon” – aka Ed Brown, hall director for Sheffield-Woolley residence hall; Betsy Randazzo, math instructor and Jason Webb, chemistry instructor.
The three judges offered comments to each performer in the same vein as their American Idol characters. They also rated each of the performers.
The event, sponsored by the Raymond Campus Associated Student Government, was a fund-raiser for Phillip Graise, a disabled Hinds student who needs a new customized van so he can attend classes. Hinds students have raised more than $1,600 so far with two fund-raisers.
Wal-Mart officials have said they will match the amount Hinds students raise through a grant program.
