Five women vie for Miss Hinds CC
01/29/08 - Five Hinds Community College students compete for the title of Miss Hinds Community College 2008 at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 30) at Hogg Auditorium in Cain-Cochran Hall.
The winner of Wednesday's pageant is eligible to compete in the Miss Mississippi pageant.
The pageant is open to the public. Admission is $5.
The five contestants include:
Rosa Belara-Young, 19, a native of Inglewood, Calif. The Raymond Campus sophomore is majoring in radio, television and film. She will perform a dance as her talent. Her platform is abstinence in youth in order to prevent teen pregnancy.
JoAnna Hulitt, 19, of Jackson. Hulitt is a graduate of Provine High. The Raymond Campus sophomore is majoring in pre-medicine. Her talent is tap dancing. Her platform is promoting nutrition for wellness.
Nikki Lewis, 18, of Jackson, who graduated from Forest Hill High. She's a Raymond Campus freshman majoring in nursing. Her talent is theatrical dancing, and her platform is arthritis awareness.
Alisha Shirley, 18, of Brandon. Shirley, a Pearl High graduate, is a freshman on the Raymond Campus majoring in pre-law. She plans to present a lyrical dance as her talent. Her platform is eating disorders in teens.
De'Lisha Wiggins, 19, of Vicksburg. She's a graduate of All Saints' Episcopal School. The Vicksburg-Warren Campus sophomore is majoring in biology. Wiggins' talent is singing. Her platform is empowering youth to be drug free.
