The Utica Campus, as part of Hinds Community College (formerly Utica Junior College — UJC), has a long history of serving the Utica community. Utica Junior College was founded in 1903 as Utica Normal and Industrial Institute. It is the oldest of the six campuses of the Hinds Community College District (HCCD). UJC merged with the HCCD in 1982 but retains its Historically Black College & University (HBCU) designation and traditions. The Utica Campus offers students a two-year educational experience comparable to that of a four-year college. Students are paired with highly-trained professional instructors, small class sizes, and benefit from the close-knit, family atmosphere. Students have the option of either living on the campus or commuting.
