Barney D. McCann is an alumnus of Hinds. He instructs Freshman and Sophomore Music Theory Ear Training, Voice, and accompanies the Hinds Community College Choir, Chamber Choir and Clefs. Mr. McCann received his Master of Music Education Degree from Mississippi College, Clinton, MS., and his Bachelor of Music degree from Belhaven College, in Jackson, MS. He studied voice with Leslie Reeves, Henry Ford and Roland Shaw. He also studied voice privately with Dr. Vivian Wood and the University of Southern Mississippi. He conducted the Belhaven College Concert Choir at the Southern Regional Convention of MENC in Mobile, Alabama. He taught at Hinds Jr. College from 1970 until he left to tour with The Norman Luboff Choir in 1979.
Mr. McCann served as musical director/accompanist at New Stage Theatre in Jackson, performing numerous one-composer revues. His professional credits also include shows in Sherman Oaks and Hollywood, California. He served as musical director, arranger and conductor of The Dallas Summer Musicals Kickoff Shows as well as numerous annual productions of the Musical Revue and Ball for the Junior League of Dallas. He worked in the telecommunications industry in Dallas until 2001 and returned to teach at Hinds Community College in 2002.
Mr. McCann is a member of ACDA, MCDA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and NATS. His students have won both state and regional NATS competitions.
