Dr. Perry Combs earned a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Performance from The University of Iowa. His teachers include Roman Prydatkyvitch (PHD, University of Vienna), Gerald Fishbach (DMA, University of Iowa), William Preucil (MM, Eastman), and Roland Vamos (DMA, Julliard). He played for three years in the Peoria String Trio (Illinois). His teaching positions include three years as instructor of Suzuki Violin at Preucil School of Music in Iowa City and thirteen years as director of Chamber Music, Jazz Improvisation, and Music History at the Academic and Performing Arts Complex in the Jackson, Mississippi Public Schools. He played violin and viola with many orchestras and string quartets including the Mississippi Orchestra, the Peoria Symphony, the Prydatkyvitch Quartet, the Heritage Quartet (Springfield, Illinois), and his own quartet. At Hinds, he teaches Strings, Music Appreciation, Music for Children (for elementary education majors), and Jazz Improvisation Lab. Also, he directs the Hinds Orchestra. He also performs on the saxophone with the Hinds Jazz Band. Dr. Combs is married to Gwen Combs, Deputy General Counsel to the Mississippi Bar Association. They have two sons, Ian and Evan, and one granddaughter, Savannah.
