Having received both the Bachelor of Music Education degree and the Master of Music in trumpet performance degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, Robert Cheesman is currently Chairman of the Department of Music, instructor of Brass Instruments and director of the jazz ensemble at Hinds Community College. He is a member of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, Principal Trumpet of the Mississippi Opera orchestra and founding member and Principal Trumpet with Capital Brass, a professional brass quintet known throughout Mississippi and the southeast. He performs regularly in local churches, is in demand for weddings and does extensive free-lance work in the metro area. He has not only played with symphonies throughout the South but has done recording work in Jackson, Dallas, Atlanta and Memphis, and has performed extensively with many well-known entertainers. Mr. Cheesman has given brass clinics throughout Western and Central Canada and the U.S. and has been an instructor at the Saskatchewan Summer School of the Arts. Making his home in Jackson since 1972, Robert is married to Sybil Cheesman and has two children, Brian and Heather.
