Mr. Berthold has held the Principal Timpanist chair in the Mississippi Symphony and Mississippi Opera Orchestras since 1982, and is also the current Principal Timpanist of the Meridian Symphony. He holds both Masters and Bachelors degrees in Music Performance from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City where he studied with Metropolitan Opera Orchestra Timpanist Fred D. Hinger and New York Philharmonic Principal Percussionist Walter Rosenberger. Along with his duties as applied instructor at H.C.C., he teaches at Mississippi College, Jackson State University and in his home studio. Mr. Berthold has extensive experience in Drum and Bugle Corps performance and instruction. "Bud" also is an experienced touring performer and clinician on the drum set. He works regularly throughout the entire mid-south region and is in demand as a freelance performer and studio musician. He is the percussionist with the Jackson based, "Capital Brass" brass quintet, and is the drummer in the regionally acclaimed, "Bluz Boys" show band. Mr. Berthold has been on the H.C.C. faculty since 1989.
