Hinds Community College Band Department

Band is one of the oldest and most popular student organizations on the Raymond Campus. With concert groups beginning in the 1930's and marching units being formed in the 1940's, the tradition and history of Hinds bands is based in quality and excellence. The band department at Hinds is constantly growing and moving forward. We have many ensembles you may choose to be a part of: Marching band, Concert Band or Wind Ensemble, Brass, Woodwind or Percussion Ensembles, Indoor Drumline, Winterguard, Jazz Band, or Rock Band.
The new Hinds Band Hall, pictured above, is one of the finest band facilities in Mississippi. This beautiful building houses three rehearsal halls, five faculty offices and studios, a student lounge and several practice rooms. Two of the rehearsal halls are designed specifically for recording with state of the art acoustic treatment. The large rehearsal hall will be used for marching band rehearsals, guard practices, indoor drumline and winterguard.
All students in band receive generous scholarships that may be applied toward tuition and/or room and board costs. Our scholarships are stackable and can be combined with other forms of financial aid to form a great package. Most students receive other sources of financial support and are able to use the band scholarship to cover the cost of books and other fees.
The Hinds Community College Bands are under the direction of Shane Sprayberry and Randy Mapes. We have many other faculty members that are directly involved with the band program. The Hinds jazz band is under the direction of Bob Cheesman.
