Learn and Serve
The Leadership and Organizational Skills program is open to all entering freshmen who have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher and to all college students with a minimum 3.0 GPA and 6 semester hours. Participants enroll in the Honors Leadership and Organizational Skills Class (LEA 1811, 1821, 1831, 1841). This one-hour class meets every Monday at 12:30 p.m.. It follows two strands - one focusing on leadership and the other on team building.
The leadership strand prepares students for current and future managerial and leadership challenges. Areas covered include values assessment, goal setting, planning, resume writing, business and social etiquette, and interviewing skills. Additionally, students are assisted in their transfer preparation to the university or the world of work. Part of this preparation includes researching the availability of transfer scholarships or employment opportunities at the university, visiting the college or university campus and meeting with advisors, or visiting potential employment sites to meet with human resources personnel.
The team building strand helps students develop team-working skills as their team assumes responsibility for developing, organizing and implementing various on and off campus projects, events and activities. Students enrolled in the Leadership and Organizational Skills program will receive a $200 scholarship for each semester completed.
Servant-Leadership
Leadership Development enrollment is reserved for outstanding sophomores who are serving as officers for Raymond Campus clubs, organizations, or Honor societies. Participating students register for the 3-hour Honors Leadership Development Classes I and II (LEA 1813, 1823) which meet every Monday after noon during the fall and spring semesters. These classes explore important facets of leadership. Topics range from developing a personal leadership philosophy to goal setting, decision making, change making, conflict resolution, time management, and trust building. Classes are discussion-based, interactive, and collaborative in design. Students enrolled in the Leadership Development program will receive a $500 scholarship for each semester completed.
