Dear Clinical Preceptor,
Thank you for assisting the Hinds Community College Respiratory Care Technology Program in producing outstanding Respiratory Therapists. The work you do in this area is vital and we appreciate the energy, skill and dedication you bring to the job.
Just as in health care, educators are also responsible for validating the quality of their work. We are required to show that anyone who assesses student performance does so equally and fairly.
We are required by the Committee on Accreditation of Respiratory Care to document inter-rater reliability. The most expedient and effective way of doing this is to have you watch the attached video, and then evaluate the student performance using the form posted.
Once completed, you can hit the submit button to send me the completed evaluation. Many of the local Respiratory Therapy Departments will require this as annual training and when I receive your student evaluation, I will report to the appropriate supervisor, as indicated.
Please realize the student performance is not meant to be perfect. The goal is to see if all therapists will evaluate equally and fairly using the given check list. You will either check satisfactory or unsatisfactory (or not observed on video) for each line of the evaluation.
Thank you for your time and effort on this. Please know it is just one more step in producing quality Respiratory Therapists for our community.
