Admission Process for Associate Degree Nursing Programs

Requirements for Associate Degree Nursing Program
Applicants for the nursing program must meet all General Admission Requirements of the College.  In addition to these requirements there are other requirements specific to nursing and allied health programs.

Admission Requirements
Admission Requirements: Generic Option
Admission Requirements: Transition to RN Option

Complete and submit the following for Generic Option:

Application for Admission to Hinds Community College
Application for Selection to the Generic Option Associate Degree Nursing Program
• Validation of High School Graduation by official high school transcript, GED equivalency transcript, or college transcript.
Official Transcripts from all colleges attended (except Hinds CC)
American College Test (ACT) Composite Score of at least 18 (15 if taken before October, 1989)

Complete and submit the following for Transition to RN Option:
  • Application to Hinds Community College
  • Application for Selection to the Transition to RN Option Associate Degree Nursing Program
  • Validation of High School Graduation by official high school transcript, GED equivalency transcript, or college transcript.
  • Official Transcripts from all colleges attended (except Hinds CC)
  • American College Test (ACT) Composite Score of 18 or above (If taken prior to October 1989 - 15. To waive an ACT score below 18, 33 semester hours of the general education support courses required in the AD Nursing program must be completed with an overall GPA of 2.5 or above. See Program of Study prerequisites to Nursing Science Courses for required courses. Only grades from the first two attempts of required courses will be used in computing the GPA.
  • Nurse Entrance Test (NET) Score of 69 or above in Essential Math Skills and 59 or above in Reading Comprehension. (Applicants are eligible to take the exam only once in a one year time frame unless written permission to retest is obtained from the Associate Degree Nursing program director.)
  • Validation of Current Unencumbered Practical Nurse License
  • Written recommendation from practical nursing instructor or immediate supervisor
Process for Selection
The Generic Option and the Transition to RN Option each have a defined process for selection.  There is also a defined process for selection for transfer admissions.

Prerequisites to the First Clinical Course
Prerequisites to First Generic Clinical Course (NUR 1119)
Prerequisites to First Transition to RN Option Clinical (NUR 2214)

Admissions Office, Nursing/Allied Health Center, 1750 Chadwick Drive, Jackson, MS 39204-3490
Submitting information to other locations will delay the processing of the applicant's file.
