What is the Student Chapter Program of Home Builders at Hinds all about?
The National Association of Home Builders Student Chapter Program provides students in the building-related fields such as construction management, construction trades, engineering, architecture, and real estate an opportunity to learn more about residential building through membership in the industry's largest trade association.Chapters are located in universities, community colleges, vocational-technical schools, and high schools across the country.
Through the Student Chapter Program, students are given first-hand exposure to the "real world" of the building industry.  NAHB membership gives these students an invaluable complement to their academic studies. Each Chapter is officially sponsored by a local or state builder association.  As the Chapter's sponsor, the association serves as an invaluable information source for the students by providing speakers, internships, summer job opportunities, scholarships, and community projects.

Some quick facts about Student Chapters across America:
  • Membership totals over 2400 students from over 100 institutions across the U.S.
  • Student members receive special discounts on NAHB publications, the annual Builders' Show, the annual Remodelers' Show, and other NAHB educational programs.
  • Student members receive Newsline (the quarterly newsletter of the Student Chapter Program), Nations Building News, and Builder magazine through their school.
  • Students are encouraged to become active with community service projects.
  • The program encourages students to get involved with NAHB at an early stage thereby strengthening the future of the association.
How Students Will Benefit From Joining The Hinds Home Builders Club?
Gifts from the home building industry go directly to the local Student Chapter, student or educator.
  1. Construction Management Marathon Competitions for students in four-year degree programs.  A highly popular event, this competition has become an exciting annual tradition.  Students form teams which act as professional building companies competing for the opportunity to build a proposed residential project.
  2. Construction Management Marathon Competition for students in two-year degree programs.  Similar to the marathon for four-year programs, this competition is geared to students in associate degree programs.  Teams are given a problem to solve on a proposed residence.  Drawings, a list of materials, and recommendations on energy-efficient construction must be provided.
  3. Outstanding Student Chapter Awards.  Each year three Chapters are recognized by NAHB for their outstanding achievements in club activities, campus activities, and community service.
  4. Outstanding Educator Awards.  Cash awards are given to the outstanding educator from a four-year institution and from a two-year institution.
  5. Affordable Housing Essay Competition.  This competition encourages today's youth to examine the complex and serious issues of affordable housing.
  6. Scholarships Are Available.  Several scholarships are given each semester for club members.
