Each year the Agriculture Department hosts numerous industry and educational activities. Some are annual events such as the Hinds County Livestock Show that is held the last weekend in January, and the Performance Bull Sale that is held the first Thursday in March. Other sales and Breed association field days are held throughout the year. Also, fitting and grooming youth camps and livestock judging camps are conducted during the summer. The Natural Resource Conservation youth camp is usually held on the HCC campus.
The Hinds Agriculture Department works very closely with 4-H and FFA students throughout the state of Mississippi to set up special education events that might be requested. As a matter of fact, the State FFA Center is located only about a 1/4 mile from the Kendall Agriculture Complex on the Raymond Campus.
The Central Mississippi Research and Extension Center is located in the Kendall complex; thus, a strong working relationship exist between the Hinds Agriculture Department and the state's two Land Grant Universities, Alcorn and Mississippi State Universities. The Hinds Agriculture Department along with the CMR&ES hosts "Fun on the Farm" each year. This is an educational program for elementary students and teachers. In addition, the Farm Bureau holds it's annual Harvest Supper and the Hinds County Soil and Water District holds it's Award's Banquet in our facilities each year. The Agriculture Club students serve meals at these events each year as a fundraiser.
