How much does it cost to take the GED? $40 for the initial test, $12 per subject area for retesting
Am I eligible? Eligible test takers: Have been residents of MS for at least 30 days, are 18 years of age or older, and have not been enrolled in secondary school for at least three months.
How do I apply to take the GED? Contact a Counselor on the Raymond, Utica, or Vicksburg/Warren Campuses. See the 'How to get Started' link for details.
How do I prepare for the test? GED test preparation is available for FREE through the Adult Basic Education program. There is also an Online test prep program available.
What do I bring with me on the test date? Current valid picture identification (driver's license or government i.d.) and verification of your social security number are required at the time of testing.
How many times can I take the test? The GED can be taken a maximum of three times in one year.
What score must I make to pass the test? To pass the test, scores must average 450 with no individual subtest score falling below 410.
When will I find out if I passed the test? You should receive test results in approximately three weeks.
What if I miss my scheduled test date? The $40 deposit to reserve a test date is non-refundable and applies to the initial test date only. If you miss the test date, you may call 601.857.3216 to set up another test date.
What are the advantages of taking the GED or other Adult Basic Education classes? Successful completion of this test results in a certificate of high school equivalency being issued. ABE courses are an excellent opportunity to upgrade your skill level and prepare you for the workforce.
What kinds of Adult Basic Education classes are offered? ABE offers GED test preparation as well as assistance with skills such as reading, writing and math.
Can I take classes and continue working? The ABE classes and GED test are offered at a variety of locations with an assortment of dates available. It should be easy to find a program that meets your needs!
