Learning Assistance Center
The Learning Assistance Center, housed in Moss Hall, offers academic assistance in mathematics, English, and reading, as well as services to students with documented disabilities. The services are free and available to all students on the Raymond Campus of Hinds Community College when classes are in session during the fall, spring, and summer terms.
The Mathematics Lab (Room 108), operated under the auspices of the Mathematics Department, is open each weekday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., offering extended hours on Monday (6-9 p.m.) and Tuesday evenings (4-9 p.m.).
The Writing Center (Room 207), maintained by the English and Modern Foreign Languages Department, is staffed from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. each weekday, offering extended hours on Tuesday (4-9 p.m.).
The Reading/Education Lab, managed by the Reading/Education Department, meets in one of the computer pods Monday through Thursday from 1-3 p.m. and is staffed by a Reading/Education instructor.
Students qualifying for Disability Support Services (Room 211), including Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, also find help in the Learning Assistance Center. Daily hours are 8:00 to 4:30 p.m. Like the Mathematics Lab and Writing Center, the Disability Support Services Office offers extended hours until 9 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
In addition to the Mathematics Lab, the Writing Center, Disability Support Services, and the Reading/Education Lab, the Computer Lab in Moss Hall is open for academic work related to classes, including EDU 1101 and 1201 (PLATO), upon seat availability. The Computer Lab is open from 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. each Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, closing at 4:30 p.m. each Wednesday and Friday.
Each semester, there are between 8-10,000 student visits for one or more areas of the available services, and during the summer term, between 2,000 and 3,500 student visits.
