The Hinds Community College women's soccer team has suffered close losses of late, losing two out of three games by the score of 2-1. The latest loss for Hinds came on Wednesday at Itawamba Community College, as the Lady Eagles dropped a close 2-1 affair. Jessie Dotson of Byram was the lone scorer, as she was assisted by Kendal Lee of Clinton.
"We took away chances from Itawamba and created chances for ourselves but just couldn't find the back of the net," said Hinds coach Kori Babb. "We played a fairly good game but not good enough to pull out the win."
In between losses, the Lady Eagles were able to soundly defeat Gordon College (Ga.), 10-0. This game was played in Meridian on Saturday, Sept. 27. Lee scored the only first half goal for Hinds, before the Lady Eagles came alive in the second half.
Lee added another goal and two assists, while Brittany Bailey of Brandon scored two as well, along with adding an assist. Tina Benton of Utica and Valery Howard of Brandon scored two goals of their own, with Rachel Webb of Brandon finishing the scoring with one goal.
Benton, Barbara Dotson of Byram and Lucy Matthews of Vicksburg all provided an assist.
In a matchup that took place on Tuesday, Sept. 23, Hinds lost to bitter rival Meridian Community College, 2-1. Meridian scored two goals in the first half to seal the win.
Hinds answered late in the second half when Lee found the back of the net, but it was not enough.
The Lady Eagles are now 3-1 in division play and could clinch the division championship with two more wins.
